Why bamboo for a double bed?

Advice when you share a bed

If one of you runs warm and the other feels the cold, bamboo is the easiest compromise. It moves excess heat away from the warm sleeper and still insulates enough for the one who is always cold, without either of you switching to a different duvet. If night sweats are the problem, a lighter summer duvet in a bamboo cover usually does more than turning the heating down. And for winter, the winter filling keeps warmth in without the stuffy feeling.

A practical tip for couples who pull the covers: go one duvet size up. A 240 x 220 cover on a 160 cm bed gives enough overhang that neither of you ends up uncovered.

What sizes are right for a double bed?

For a UK double bed (135 x 190 cm) choose our 140 x 200 cm fitted sheet, for a UK king (150 x 200 cm) the 160 x 200 cm and for a UK super king (180 x 200 cm) the 180 x 200 cm. Choose the duvet cover by the size of your duvet: 200 x 200 cm fits a standard double duvet. You will usually need two pillowcases, which are sold as a pair. All sizes are in our bedding size guide.

Is bamboo bedding a good choice for couples?

Yes, especially when one of you sleeps warm and the other feels the cold. Bamboo carries heat and moisture away from whoever is too warm, without making the bed colder for the other person. If the difference is large, two single duvets in different weights solve the rest.

Why use two single duvets in a double bed?

Two single duvets let each of you choose your own warmth, for example a summer duvet for the one who sleeps hot and a winter duvet for the one who feels the cold. You also stop pulling the duvet off each other at night. Each duvet goes in its own single duvet cover, such as 140 x 200 or 140 x 220 cm. This works especially well on a king or super king bed.

How do I make my bed look like a hotel bed?

Start with a smooth 400 TC bamboo fitted sheet that sits tight on the mattress, add a flat sheet under the duvet and choose a duvet cover with a tuck-in strip for a neat, tucked-in finish. Keep to one or two colours, such as Coco White with Soft Taupe. Plump pillows in fresh pillowcases complete the look.
