How Often Should You Change Your Bedding?

How Often Should You Change Your Bedding?

Your bed is your sanctuary. It’s the place where you recharge, unwind, and clear your mind. But let’s be honest: after a few nights, even the coziest bed turns into a collection point for sweat, skin cells, dust, and other things you’d rather not breathe in while you sleep. And no – even if you slip under the sheets freshly showered, you still leave something behind every night. Vegan bedding.

So yes, changing your bedding is necessary. But how often, exactly? And does it matter if you sleep in cotton or bamboo? (Spoiler: yes, it does.) Let’s break it down.

What’s “normal”?

If you use cotton bedding, the rule of thumb is simple: wash and change it once a week. Cotton traps moisture, develops odors more quickly, and has no antibacterial properties. Leave your sheets on longer, and your bed quietly becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, dust mites, and even fungi. Not exactly the recipe for a fresh night’s sleep.

What if you sleep in bamboo?

Then you’re already one step ahead. Bamboo bedding isn’t just silky-soft and smooth – it’s also naturally antibacterial, breathable, moisture-wicking, and hypoallergenic. The result? A bed that stays fresher for longer, with less odor, fewer bacteria, and fewer wash cycles.

How often should you wash bamboo bedding?

In most cases, every 10 to 14 days is enough. Thanks to the unique properties of bamboo fiber, your bed stays fresh even when you don’t change it weekly.

Of course, there are exceptions:

  • Do you sleep with a pet in bed?
  • Sweat heavily at night?
  • Just recovered from an illness?
  • Or do you simply love that ultra-fresh, just-washed feeling?

Then weekly washing is still a great idea. The golden rule: listen to your body and your bedding. If it still smells fresh, you’re fine. If it feels clammy or stale, it’s time for a wash.

How to wash bamboo bedding (without washing out the magic)

Bamboo is strong, yet a little delicate. Treat it with care, and it will stay soft, smooth, and beautiful for years.

  • Wash at a maximum of 40°C (104°F)
  • Use a mild detergent, free from bleach
  • Skip fabric softener (bamboo doesn’t need it)
  • Air-dry when possible, or tumble dry on low
  • Wash separately or with similar fabrics

This way, your bamboo bedding stays fresh, silky, and in top condition – night after night.

Don’t have bamboo bedding yet?

Now is the perfect time to experience the difference. Bamboo feels luxurious but is surprisingly practical: less washing, more freshness, and better sleep. And yes – it’s also kinder to the planet.
